It's a decent start. However, it's certainly incredibly flawed. The composition is, to say the least, not good. Why is the right side of the character mostly empty? Also, the cleanness of the top half (the wall part) doesn't mesh well with the floor part (which is quite messy). Adding some extra details on the walls (stains, wallpaper peeling off, etc) would've helped. Also, the choice of colours is quite bland. The colours chosen here do not express the "destroyed life of an alcoholic" feel very well. I do like the character design, it looks pretty good for a beginner.
Overall, I hope you can take my criticism to heart and continue to improve. I can see a ton of potential here! It just needs more practice. Overall, a 7/10.

Aloft means you're floating; you're up in the sky. A good way to remember it is that it's an anagram of the word "Float" which makes perfect sense.
